Windows 2000 FlavorsAt the moment of this writing several flavors of the Windows 2000 operating system (OS) were available. They all are listed below with a brief description and system requirements where available. Windows 2000 ProfessionalThis operating system is designed for desktops and notebooks, supports up to 4 GB of memory, and scales to 2 processors. It is an operating system for office and mobile professionals. It may be considered as a combined evolutionary product of Windows 9x and Windows NT enhanced with new features. It is a client workstation OS. System requirements:
64 MB minimum recommended RAM. 2 GB hard disk with minimum 650 MB free. Windows 2000 ServerServer-side OS supporting up to 4 GB of RAM. Scales to 4 processors. System requirements:
256 MB minimum recommended RAM (128 MB minimum is still suppported). 2 GB hard disk with minimum 1 GB (more when installing over network) free. Windows 2000 Advanced ServerServer-side OS supporting up to 8 GB of RAM. Scales to 8 processors. This OS may be used in a 2-node cluster to provide better service availability as well as in a 32-node network load balancing. System requirements:
256 MB minimum recommended RAM (128 MB minimum is still suppported). 2 GB hard disk with minimum 1 GB (more when installing over network) free. Windows 2000 Datacenter ServerServer-side OS supporting up to 64 GB of RAM. Scales to 32 processors. May be used in a 4-node cluster as well as in a 32-node network load balancing. |
