IntroductionThis book is a second edition of my "Windows NT Security" book published in 1997. It is also a complete rewrite of the original text. There were some things that I did not like in the first edition. This book is an attempt to improve on that. Also, because of evolution of Windows, new things appeared in the operating system. I felt some need to research a few of them and document findings as I moved along... This book is not a tutorial on Windows 2000 security. It is neither a reference. If you are looking for this kind of documentation you should probably try MSDN online library. What I am trying to make out of this book is a kind of a research companion in the field of Windows 2000 security programming. This book will hopefully contain some code samples showing how things may be accomplished programmatically. I also plan to comment on the samples. A small notice about security administration. This topic (administration) is rather serious and deserves either a dedicated book or a series of articles. I do not intend to cover it here. Specialized Windows security administration books do exist. Contents by Chapters
